Before you undertake Six Sigma, you should apply Lean principles to design work and arrange workplaces to maximize efficiency and eliminate waste. This course covers the complete Lean body of knowledege in 11 online learning modules developed and presented by Thomas Pyzdek. Pyzdek is the author of numerous works on operational excellence, including The Six Sigma Handbook, The Quality Engineering Handbook, and The Handbook of Quality Management. His work is wide acclaimed for making seemingly complex subjects easy to understand.
In this course you will learn to create value streams where work flows based on the pull of customer demand. The Lean approach taught here is that pioneered by Toyota and used worldwide in industries as varied as manufacturing, services and healthcare. Pyzdek employs the latest e-learning technology and methods. The training is 100% online and completely self-paced. You have 365 days to complete the training and we estimate the total time commitment to be approximately 20 hours. Topics covered include:
- Overview of Lean (3 modules.) A high-level overview of the Lean body of knowledge that shows you how all of the pieces of Lean fit together.
- The Product Family Matrix. A tool to help you avoid suboptimization by applying Lean to several products or services simultaneously.
- Spaghetti Diagrams to help you visualize the wasted movement of parts and people in your operations.
- Value Stream Maps give you a picture of the entire value stream, including part, materials, and information flows as well as value-added and non-value-added time.
- Value Stream Design teaches you how to arrange the workplace in a manner that maximizes flow and minimizes wasted motion and inventory
- Work Design shows you how to design work (and work cells) in a way that consistently produces value with the least amount of effort and waste.
- 5S. Flow is easier to achieve if the workplace is properly designed and maintained. Lean begins with a well-organized workplace. In lean we use 5S to help organize the workplace.
- Quick Work Changeover. When the demands of the customer and marketplace change quickly, your workplace must be adaptive. Lean provides a set of principles and techniques that you can use to make the same equipment and facilities do several jobs rather than just one.
- Continuous Improvement and Kaizen. The journey to excellence is ongoing. This module helps you organize to continue your pursuit of perfection.
After completing the training you will receive a certificate of completion. You may optionally choose to take the certification exam. if you achieve a passing score on the exam you will receive Lean Certification from the Pyzdek Institute.
